Rono Hills, Apr 8: The Officers’ Club of Rajiv Gandhi University (OCRGU) on Monday organised a friendly doubles badminton tournament to mark the inauguration of the newly laid Poly Propylene Tile (PPT) badminton court at the university’s Indoor Sports Arena.

Faculty members, officers, staff and sports enthusiasts participated in the event, which aimed to promote fitness, camaraderie and wellness on campus.

Inaugurating the court and the tournament, RGU registrar Dr Nabam Tadar Rikam said the university is committed to the holistic development of its community.

“Sports unite, inspire and refresh us. This facility is a step towards building a healthier, more connected campus,” he said.

OCRGU chairman and HoD geography Prof Gibji Nimasow said the initiative reflects the collective spirit of RGU’s sports-loving community.

“We hope to see more such events that bring colleagues together as teammates and friends,” he added.

Dr David Pertin, founding chairman of OCRGU, said the court launch and tournament are a celebration of shared purpose and wellness, and urged members to continue the same zeal beyond the event.

Sixteen players, including two women, participated in the knock-out tournament. Munna Lal Sharma and Aninji Mihu clinched the title, while Dr David Pertin and Tedik Narah finished runners-up. The other semi-finalists were Dr NT Rikam-Kulenso Pul and Dr Heisnam Shanjit Singh-Techi Kamtung.
