Itanagar, Apr 8: The second district level inter-school meet kicked off on Tuesday with a vibrant opening ceremony at the Gyalwa Tsangyang Gyatso high altitude stadium in Tawang, with participation of 1000 students from 43 government elementary schools of the border district, supported by 100 escorting teachers.
In a show of support, Tawang MLA Namgey Tsering inaugurated the event and announced ? 2 lakh in personal financial assistance to ensure its successful conduct.
The meet is being organised under the leadership of Tawang deputy director of school education (DDSE) Hridhar Phuntso, with major logistical support from the Indian Army.
The initiative aims to promote student talent, unity, discipline, and holistic development.
The inaugural ceremony was graced by prominent dignitaries including deputy commissioner Kanki Darang, superintendent of police Dr D W Thongon, and Lt Col Digvijay Jadhav of the Tawang Brigade, among others.
Addressing the occasion, the MLA praised the education department’s efforts and encouraged students to participate with sincerity, discipline, and sportsmanship. He also emphasised the importance of staying away from drugs and maintaining cleanliness in their surroundings.
Lt Col Jadhav, in his address lauded the organisers and expressed confidence that such platforms would empower students to discover and showcase their skills across various fields.
The DDSE highlighted that the meet encourages inter-school collaboration and healthy competition, helping students evolve into responsible citizens.
The highlight of the inauguration was the lighting of the Olympic torch by the MLA and the administration of the participants' pledge by the deputy commissioner, formally marking the commencement of the meet.
As the event unfolds over the coming days, the district anticipates an inspiring showcase of student talent, unity, and sportsmanship.
