Ziro, Apr 9: A ten-member team of the 16th Finance Commission of India, led by Annie George Mathew, visited Ziro Valley in Lower Subansiri district on Wednesday to assess the progress and challenges in the implementation of various flagship schemes.
During the visit, the team held a productive interaction with Panchayati Raj Institution (PRI) members and heads of departments, officials said.
The Commission also reviewed the implementation status of key government programmes and discussed local issues and bottlenecks with the stakeholders.
As part of the field visit, the team toured important sites including the Integrated Aqua Park at Tarin, the sacred Shivalinga at Kardo and Seeh Lake at Birii. They also visited a traditional Apatani household belonging to one Tilling Duri at Hong village and interacted with local residents to understand their concerns and development needs.
The team later visited Naara Aaba Winery at Hong, known for producing India’s first organic kiwi wine, where they interacted with the founder, Tage Rita, a prominent entrepreneur from the region.
The district administration, in the evening, organised a colourful cultural programme to showcase the vibrant traditions and customs of the Apatani tribe, marking the conclusion of the delegation’s visit.
