Itanagar, Apr 9: The Department of English of the Dera Natung Government College (DNGC) organised a one-day seminar on March 9 on the theme "Representation of Nation and Culture in Postcolonial Literatures."

Assistant professors Joram Renu and Tamo Yanga coordinated the seminar under the guidance of the department head, JR Padhi, who chaired both technical sessions.

In her opening remarks, Renu emphasised the relevance of postcolonial discourse in contemporary times and encouraged young scholars to engage critically with themes of culture, identity, and resistance in literature. Padhi, delivering the keynote address, highlighted evolving perspectives in postcolonial studies and urged students to adopt interdisciplinary approaches in their academic pursuits.

Eight groups of students from Semester VI presented papers on various aspects of postcolonial literature. Faculty members mentored each group to provide academic support and guidance. The sessions witnessed interactive discussions between presenters and the audience.

Over 100 students participated in the seminar, which concluded with the distribution of prizes and certificates to the top three groups. The best paper award was conferred on Group 5, represented by Sonia Zeeba and Petum Gee. Group 2, comprising Ania Tajo and Pinni Karbi, was adjudged the second-best, while Group 8, presented by Rei Yame and Yuyi Pakyi Lomdik, secured the third position.

The seminar concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Tamo Yanga, who acknowledged the contributions of the department faculty, including Nending Ommo, Yitu Murtem, Goli Nyodu, Nasi Koje, and Topi N Bagra, for mentoring the student groups. The programme was moderated by Kamli Sofia, a Semester IV student.

The event reflected the growing academic engagement at DNGC under the leadership of principal MQ Khan.
