Hasse Russa, Apr 10: The Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Longding, under the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), conducted a training-cum-input distribution programme on Natural Farming at Hasse Russa village on Wednesday.

The programme, led by in-charge Senior Scientist-cum-Head, A Kirankumar Singh, and Subject Matter Specialist (Agricultural Extension), B Srishailam, saw the participation of 38 farmers. The training session was facilitated by chief of Hasse Russa Nyakwang Wangsu, and Akot Arangham.

Addressing the gathering, Singh emphasized the significance of Natural Farming, its sustainability, and its relevance in maintaining soil fertility. He noted that while organic practices have been traditionally followed in the region, farmers often do not add organic matter to the soil to replenish fertility. Singh stressed the importance of supplementing the soil with organic manures to ensure sustainable crop production and highlighted the success of Natural Farming practices adopted in various states and countries as an alternative to chemical fertilizers and pesticides.

Singh also acknowledged the role of desi cows reared by the farmers, pointing out their potential contribution to the success of Natural Farming in the village.

Speaking on the occasion, Srishailam shared experiences from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, where farmers' associations have helped resource-poor farmers adopt Natural Farming, leading to improvements in crop production and productivity.

Following the training session, critical inputs including drums for the preparation of Beejamrit, Jeevamrit, Brahmastra, Neemastra, and Agniastra were distributed among the farmers. Maize seeds were also provided as part of the initiative.

Singh assured the farmers of continued support from KVK Longding to enhance agricultural production and improve livelihoods in the region.
