Itanagar, Apr 11: Governor K T Parnaik Thursday visited Gujarat’s Gir National Park and Wildlife Sanctuary, drawing attention to the need for collaborative conservation and sustainable eco-tourism practices in India.

The governor, a committed environmentalist, participated in a lion safari at the world’s only natural habitat of the Asiatic Lion. He used the opportunity to closely study the park’s ecological practices and engage with forest officials on its successful wildlife management strategies.

Impressed by the model, Parnaik expressed interest in replicating similar approaches in Arunachal Pradesh’s own sanctuaries and national parks. He emphasised the importance of wildlife safaris in spreading awareness about endangered species, supporting ecological research, and promoting coexistence between humans and wildlife.

Highlighting Arunachal’s rich biodiversity, he cited the recent sightings of Siberian Cranes in West Kameng and Tawang as examples of the state’s ecological potential.

He also advocated for local community participation in conservation through skill development in guiding, hospitality, and crafts, helping generate sustainable livelihoods while protecting nature.
