Bomdila, Apr 11: In an outstanding demonstration of medical skill and teamwork, the General Hospital (GH) Bomdila, successfully managed a ruptured ectopic pregnancy, an extremely critical and life-threatening condition.
The patient, a young woman, arrived at the hospital in a severely unstable condition. She was suffering from hemorrhagic shock, with her haemoglobin level dangerously low at just 5.2 g/dL.
Her veins had collapsed, making it extremely difficult to establish venous access. To make matters more challenging, the situation unfolded during harsh winter weather and when the hospital was facing a shortage of operation theatre (OT) staff.
Despite these difficulties, the OT and Gynaecology teams responded with impressive urgency and coordination. A life-saving emergency laparotomy was carried out, made possible by the quick mobilization of blood from the hospital’s blood bank and crucial support from the anaesthesia team.
Thanks to the seamless collaboration and unwavering dedication of the entire medical team, the patient’s life was saved.
The case is a testament to the exceptional commitment, skill, and coordination of GH Bomdila’s healthcare professionals, who rose to the occasion even in tough conditions with limited resources.
The surgical team was led by senior Anaesthesiologist Dr Ani Siram and Gynaecologist Dr Leena Ligu. They were supported by OT assistants Yalek Siram and Lobsang, along with OT nursing officers Pema Chuki, Namge, and Radha.
