Naharlagun, Apr 12: Police have apprehended five individuals and seized 93.15 grams of suspected heroin in two separate operations under Operation Dawn 2.0, aimed at curbing drug trafficking across the interstate border.

In the first operation on April 11, acting on intelligence inputs, police personnel laid a trap at the Banderdewa check gate and intercepted a scooter suspected to be carrying narcotics. The rider attempted to flee but was apprehended after sustaining a knee injury while jumping from a 13-feet-high wall. The accused was identified as Maku Rangmo (27), a resident of Bana, East Kameng.

Subsequently, based on his disclosure, police apprehended a co-accused, Raja Limbu (26), a resident of Naharlagun. A recovery of 35 vials containing suspected heroin weighing 46.40 grams was made, which the accused had discarded during the chase. A case was registered under Banderdewa PS Case No. 32/2025 under Section 21(b) of the NDPS Act read with Section 3(5) of the BNS, 2023.

In a separate operation later the same night, acting on another tip-off regarding the transportation of narcotics from Assam, police laid another trap along the highway. On spotting the police, the suspects in a Mahindra Scorpio attempted to flee but were intercepted through a coordinated two-way cut-off operation at Banderdewa market.

The three arrested include Enamul Hussain (24), resident of Chanimari, Morigaon district; Enamul Haque (24), and Ainul Haque (34), both residents of Mauryadas, Nagaon district, Assam, were apprehended. Police recovered four polythene packets containing suspected heroin weighing 46.75 grams concealed inside the vehicle. A case was registered under Banderdewa PS Case No. 33/2025 under Section 21(b) of the NDPS Act read with Section 3(5) of the BNS, 2023.

The operations were carried out by the Banderdewa Police team led by Naharlagun SDPO Rishi Longdo, inspector Kipa Hamak, officer-in-charge SI SK Singh, and others, under the overall supervision of SP Naharlagun Mihin Gambo.
