Pasighat, Apr 14: The H-Spring Foundation, a non-profit organisation registered with the state government, successfully organised a daylong free speech and language assessment camp in observance of autism awareness month.

The initiative aligns with the global observance of April as autism awareness month, dedicated to raising awareness about autism and supporting individuals with special needs.

The Foundation, committed to supporting children with special needs, strives to promote early identification and intervention for individuals who could benefit from speech and language therapy.

The free camp focused on identifying speech and communication challenges among children and adults, particularly those with special needs, including autism spectrum disorder (ASD), developmental delays, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), and learning difficulties.

The screening was conducted by Dr Mitesh Kumar Chaudhari, a certified speech-language pathologist, audiologist, and deglutologist from the Spring Child Development Centre, an institute run by the foundation.

The primary objectives of the camp were to provide professional speech and language screenings for both children and adults, raise awareness among parents about the importance of early intervention, and guide them on the next steps if further assessments or therapy are required.

Additionally, the camp aimed to promote inclusive and supportive environments for communication development.

Numerous individuals from various districts, including Siang, Upper Siang, East Siang, Lower Dibang Valley, and Lower Siang, benefited from the free camp.

Many parents expressed their gratitude for the opportunity and, following the initial screenings, scheduled follow-up appointments for further evaluation and therapy.
