Itanagar, Apr 14: Police under its Operation Dawn 2.0 initiative arrested two drug peddlers operating in and around the Lower Borum area near Naharlagun on Sunday.
Acting on credible intelligence, a police team from Papu Hills police station under inspector Torum Mai launched an operation, Naharlagun SP Mihin Gambo said on Monday.
The team, which included sub-inspector AK Jha, constables P Halder, D Sonowal and Sachin K Rao under the supervision of Naharlagun SDPO Rishi Longdo proceeded to arrest the accused.
As the team reached the scene, the two accused fled the scene which prompted the police to chase them, the SP said.
He said the accused were successfully apprehended from Lekhi area under Nirjuli jurisdiction,
On reaching the scene, the suspects attempted to evade police action and fled. However, due to prompt pursuit and tactical response, two suspects were successfully apprehended in the Lekhi area under Nirjuli jurisdiction.
The accused are identified as 35-year-olds Hemanta Borah and Kabang Paron, police said.
During body search of the accused, the police recovered and seized 8 vials of heroin weighing approximately 10.59 grams from their possession.
A case has been registered at Papu Hills police station under Section 21 (b) /27 of the NDPS Act, Gambo said.
He said further investigation is ongoing to identify the source and network of supply.
Lauding the police team for apprehending the accused, Gambo reiterated that the Operation Dawn 2.0 will continue to target drug networks and offenders with zero tolerance.
