Aalo, Jun 24: The anti-drug squad of West Siang police under Operation Dawn 2.0, a teacher has been arrested on charges of peddling drugs in Pakam-III area of Aalo.

Acting on a tip-off regarding peddling of drugs, the anti-drug squad led by Aalo police station officer in-charge inspector Yomken Riram and others conducted multiple raids at suspected locations, West Siang SP Kardak Riba said on Tuesday.

He said the team raided an OBT (ordinary building type) quarter and detained suspected drug peddler Bili Potom.

A total of 8.71 grams of suspected heroin worth Rs 1 lakh in local market in five tobacco containers, 3 syringes and Rs 13,000 cash in proceeds were recovered from the government quarter of the accused, police said.

The search and seizure of suspected heroin was done in the presence of executive magistrate Jumkar Karbi and other independent witnesses.

During spot interrogation, the SP said the accused disclosed that he is a drug addict and was also involved in drug peddling for the last two years.

The accused, who is serving as IT teacher under ISSE (formerly SSA), was posted at Pakam government secondary school, since his appointment.

A case under Section 21 (b)/27 of NDPS Act has been registered and investigation is on, Riba said.

While praising the anti-drug squad, the SP said that the police is committed to eradicate the menace of drugs from the district and sought cooperation of the general public in its mission.
