Itanagar, Jun 24: The All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU) has submitted a memorandum to the state’s Department of Sports, demanding immediate structural reforms to address persistent issues in sports infrastructure and administration.

The union has issued a 10-day ultimatum to the government to initiate corrective measures or issue an official response, failing which it has threatened to launch democratic protests.

Addressing a press conference at the Arunachal Press Club here, AAPSU Games & Sports Secretary Zentle Mosu said the state’s sports sector suffers from mismanagement, shortage of trained personnel, and underutilized resources, severely affecting the development of local talent.

Among the key demands, the union has called for the creation of regular District Sports Officer (DSO) posts in all districts. AAPSU criticised the current system of appointing in-charge or temporary officials, which, it said, hampers long-term planning and grassroots-level sports promotion.

“The union recommends that the appointments be conducted through the Arunachal Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC) to ensure transparency and merit,” Mosu said.

AAPSU also demanded an urgent overhaul of the Sange Laden Sports Academy in Chimpu, citing mismanagement, absence of regular coaches and hostel wardens, and inadequate student enrollment as critical issues.

The union further raised concerns over the lack of financial transparency in the functioning of the academy and urged the department to release a public report detailing expenditure on infrastructure, equipment, and salaries.

In its memorandum, the students’ body also pressed for expediting the establishment of the proposed Sange Laden Sports Academy in Miao, Changlang district. The project, despite receiving formal approvals, has witnessed no visible progress, it said. The proposed academy is expected to serve youth from the Tirap, Changlang, and Longding (TCL) region.

“We urge the government to act swiftly and demonstrate its commitment to youth empowerment and sports development in Arunachal Pradesh,” Mosu added.
