BOMDILA, Jul 5: The Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) on Saturday marked the birth anniversary of its founder Ram Vilas Paswan with a commemorative programme at Buddha Park in Bomdila, West Kameng district.

The event was attended by LJP state president Riba Pangia, youth wing president Nikon Sangchoju, and several party workers from state and district units. Participants paid tribute to Paswan’s political career and his role in advocating for social justice.

Addressing the gathering, Pangia said Paswan was a prominent political figure from Bihar who played a significant role in national politics. He noted that Paswan served as union minister of consumer affairs, food and public distribution in both the first and second Modi-led Union governments, in addition to being elected nine times to the Lok Sabha and twice to the Rajya Sabha.

Pangia recounted Paswan’s early political involvement, which began with the Samyukta Socialist Party and his election to the Bihar Legislative Assembly in 1969. He later joined the Lok Dal in 1974 as its general secretary and was jailed during the Emergency for his opposition to the suspension of democratic processes.

Paswan first entered the Lok Sabha in 1977 from Hajipur as a Janata Party candidate, which marked the beginning of a parliamentary career spanning several decades.

The LJP leaders at the event reiterated the party’s commitment to carrying forward Paswan’s legacy of working for marginalised communities and strengthening democratic values.
